Studying a language is more than learning to translate. It must include a discussion of: Geography what is the land like? History is society changing? Sociology families? rich and poor? slaves? Language, Education and the Arts how do they communicate? what kind of knowledge is important? what do their arts tell us about them? Political Science how are they governed? do they have laws? Economics how are goods produced? how are goods traded? is money used? Religion and Philosophy do they believe in a god or gods? do their beliefs affect their lives?
