Snow Days

In preparation for the possibility of wintry weather tomorrow, I am sharing a snow day update for the 2020-2021 school year.

The school district has a “cushion” of four days built into the school year calendar in case of inclement weather or other emergencies that would cause schools to close.

Due to these unprecedented times, The New York State Education Department (NYSED) has released a Remote Snow Day Pilot for the 2020-2021 School Year, which provides districts the option to pivot to remote instruction on what would otherwise be a day of school closure due to a snow emergency.

Monroe-Woodbury has not yet made a final decision about whether the district will implement the pilot program or continue with the traditional snow day practice. District leaders are evaluating long-term options and will have a final determination to share soon. However, if the school district experiences inclement weather that requires a school closure prior to a final determination being made, we will close schools and use a traditional snow day.

As you may be aware, there is a possibility of inclement weather tomorrow, October 30. If it is necessary for the district to close schools, families will be notified via email, text and/or phone call, based on preferences selected on the Parent/Student Portal. Please double check to ensure your contact information is updated.

Any changes to our regular schedule will also be posted on the district website, Facebook page and Instagram account.

I truly appreciate our families, especially during these difficult times.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
