Annual District Art Show & online silent auction May 4-6

Additional viewing of art show May 5 from 10-3 and May 6 from noon to 5 pmMonroe-Woodbury’s Annual K-12 District Art Show will be held from Friday, May 4 – Sunday, May 6, 2018. Hundreds of amazing artworks from talented student artists at all grade levels will be on display throughout the weekend, beginning with an opening reception on Friday, May 4. This special weekend event celebrates our student artists and the Visual Arts in our community by showcasing students’ art projects in painting, printmaking, computer animation, photography, ceramics, sculpture, video production, drawing and graphics. The highlight of the show is the exemplary portfolio presentations from the High School Senior Art Majors.

OPENING RECEPTION – will be held Friday, May 4, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the High School main lobby.

ADDITIONAL VIEWING  – The artwork will be available for viewing during the following times: Saturday, May 5, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 6, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

EMPTY BOWLS PROJECT – At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 5, the much anticipated “Empty Bowls” project will begin. Ceramic students and staff have created a variety of hand-made ceramic bowls for guests to choose from and to keep as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world.  In exchange for a meal (ice cream) and the bowl, guests are asked to give a donation of $10. The proceeds will go to The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley.

The popular art auction will be offered online again this year. Auction items have been meticulously designed, sculpted and painted by our Senior Art Majors. Clocks are decorated with original art or colorful representations of famous paintings all created by our Drawing and Painting students. Custom pieces along with the hand painted wooden clocks will also be auctioned. All proceeds will benefit the scholarship program for graduating senior artists.
