Senior-Scholar Athletes recognized graphic

Congratulations to MWHS seniors Varsha Jegan and Derek Li who were among the soon-to-be graduates honored at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association (OCIAA) Senior Scholar-Athlete Celebration on June 2.

Varsha is a member of the Varsity Tennis Team. She will be attending Barnard College of Columbia University in the fall and will major in Applied Mathematics. Varsha will continue playing tennis.

Academic Honors: National Honor Society; Tri-M Music Honor Society; Chamber Orchestra; FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Vice President; INTERACT Vice President; STARS Public Relations Officer (Students Teaching Advocacy & Resilience Skills); and LEAD member (Leadership, Empowerment, Advocacy, Dedication)

Athletic Honors: Co-captain of the varsity Tennis Team; recipient of the Co-Most Important Player Award; OCIAA County Semifinalist; Section IX Division Championship Quarter-finalist; and Division Team Champions.

Community Service: Woodbury Community Ambulance youth member; Teen Volunteer at Monroe Free Library; Volunteer at Camp Wee Discovery at the YMCA; Kathak and Bollywood dance teacher to younger students; Making Strides Against Breast Cancer participant; and Blood Drive organizer.

Derek is a member of the Varsity Basketball and Track & Field teams. He will be attending the University of Connecticut in the fall and will major in either Business or Computer Science. 

Academic Honors: National Honor Society; French Honor Society; Essential Prep (SAT Tutoring Program); and Student Council.

Athletic Honors: Track & Field - NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award; OCIAA League Championship; Basketball - NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award; and Varsity Letter.

Community Service: 150 hours towards the Summer Enrichment Program held previously at MWMS and now at Pine Tree Elementary School; 150 hours towards Sacred Heart Church helping a food drive during the pandemic.
