Pine Tree's Food Pantry Challenge header

As a grade level Pine Tree's 4th grade decided to do a challenge to hopefully bring in a lot of donations for local food pantries.  Each class was assigned a color and they were given strips of construction paper in that color.  Each time someone in the class brought in a donation for the food pantry, a link would be added to that class's chain.  A bar graph hanging in the hallway provided a visual of how each class was doing in the challenge.  This made it exciting for students, but it also motivated them to bring in donations! The reward was a pajama/movie day for the class that brought in the most items. BUT, if the grade, as a whole, brought in more than 500 donations, all classes would earn that reward. The grand total was 1,316 items! Grade 4 Teacher Mrs. Devine reported, "The students really seemed excited about it and it went along with our PBIS initiative, especially being empathetic and team players. It was fun to watch them look at the bar graph as they walked by to see who was in the lead." In the end, they were all winners!
