Girls Cross Country team earns Section IX Championship.

Boys Cross Country team is Section IX Champ.

One week after their triumphant victories at the OCIAA Cross-Country meet, the MWXC Boys and Girls teams both added Section IX Champions to their credentials with impressive victories Friday afternoon at Bear Mountain State Park.

The boys snapped Warwick Valley’s streak of 19 straight Section IX titles by a tight margin of 2 points.  Junior Daniel Hynes had the best race of his career leading the Crusaders with his 6th place finish.  Placing 6 runners between 6th and 16th places helped the Crusaders earn their first Sectional title since 1994.

Once again Jessica Pidgeon was the top runner for the girls’ squad.  Placing all 5 team scorers in the top 10 helped MW earn their 4th straight Section IX title with a 12 point victory over Warwick Valley.  Senior Julia Hoyt became the second girl in school history to be a member of 4 Sectional Championship Cross-Country teams.

The OCIAA and Section 9 victories by both the boys and girls teams marks the first time in the ever that MW has swept all four championships in a single season.

By virtue of their Section IX championships, the boys and girls teams both advance to compete in the NYSPHSAA Cross-Country Championship meet Saturday November 11th at Wayne Central High School. Good luck to our athletes!
