Colin Gordon is Athlete of the Week

on April 5, 2017

The Monroe-Woodbury Athletic Department, would like to announce that Colin Gordon is the “Athlete of the Week” for the week ending April 7, 2017 for the Monroe-Woodbury Boys Varsity Tennis team. Colin was nominated by Coach Anita Wilson who wrote the following.

It is my pleasure to nominate Colin Gordon as Tennis’ Athlete of the Week for the many great qualities he possesses. Colin Gordon is a senior, and this is his fifth year on the varsity tennis team. He is also one of our Captains this year.

Tennis’ regular season has just begun, and Colin has been challenged with playing at one of the most competitive spots in our lineup. He is representing The Crusaders as our second singles player this year. Colin’s game has improved once again this year, which is evidence of the time he has spent in the off season, practicing and working on his game.

Colin has already been successful in winning his first two matches this season, only giving up two games out of 26. His performance on the court has been nothing short of outstanding. He plays hard and smart, and portrays a calm attitude. He continues to look for ways to improve his game. The calmness shown by Colin on the court is very difficult to maintain in tennis. Many players, even the professional ones, find difficulty doing this.

For the past three years, Colin has represented Monroe-Woodbury at the county and sectional tennis tournaments, and he qualified and played at the state tournament two years ago. As Colin’s coach, I am impressed with the dedication he has shown to tennis. This time and effort has provided Colin with the skills needed to be successful in tennis. Over the years, Colin’s game has improved in so many aspects. Improvement has been shown in his power, strokes, footwork, serve and strategy.

Overall, Colin is a hard working scholar athlete, and a dedicated part of the Crusaders Boys’ Tennis Team. I am happy to have him as an important part of our team again this year, and I look forward to continuing to see him grow in the future.

Congratulations Colin!
