Crusaders finish strong at Odyssey of the Mind Regionals

on March 15, 2019

On March 9, seven Monroe-Woodbury teams competed in the 40th Annual Regional Odyssey of the Mind Competition at the BOCES campus in Goshen. The teams, made up of 6-7 students each, have been working tirelessly to create an 8-minute skit to address their chosen problem. M-W teams performed very well with two first place, two second place, two third place and one fourth place win.

Middle School Teams Hutter and McInerney earned first place and will be competing at the State Tournament in Binghamton, New York, on March 23, Team Hutter also won the coveted Ranatra Fusca award for extreme creativity.

According to the Odyssey of the Mind website,

“Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. Team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics. They then bring their solutions to competition on the local, state, and world level. Thousands of teams from throughout the United States and from about 25 other countries participate in the program. Odyssey is unique in that it’s all about creativity, an often overlooked element in the growth and development of many students. Kids are rewarded more for how they apply their knowledge, skills and talents, and not for coming up with the right answer. In fact, in Odyssey of the Mind problems, there isn’t one right answer. Ever.”

Congratulations to our hard-working Creative Crusaders! And best of luck to our teams moving on to States.
