District recognizes the M-W community for generosity & caring

on January 8, 2020

There are so many reasons why M-W is such an amazing community. At the top of the list are the local businesses, organizations, groups and families who helped make the holiday season a brighter, less stressful one for some local families. The district is so grateful for all who had a part in the sharing of goodwill this holiday season. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Here are some highlights from this past season of giving. We simply cannot account for each and every person who made a difference, but please know your kindness and generosity are so appreciated. Families were deeply touched by your compassion and love.

  • Special thanks to David Mistretta and the retailers of the Woodbury Common Outlets who fulfilled clothing wish lists for more than 70 students. We cannot thank the gracious shops and employees enough!
  • 120 students received a $100 gift card for Target to be involved with the holiday event, Heroes and Helpers. Each student was paired with community service members: Heroes: – Police Officers, Fire Fighters and Emergency Response Members; Helpers – Target employees who assisted students as they purchased gifts for the holidays.
  • Breakfast with Santa was hosted by the MW Rotary Club at Chicago Uno Pizza Grill. Uno employees purchased gifts for 33 students who enjoyed a lovely breakfast with all of their family members and received a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The event was incredibly successful.
  • Thanks to the generosity of our community neighbors, six M-W families had their holiday wish lists fulfilled, alleviating worries and difficulties some of our families experienced this year.
  • Several M-W teams sponsored food drives and other events to benefit local food pantries and families.
  • M-W schools held clothing drives, food drives and more to benefit our families.
  • M-W musicians performed at local holiday events.

‘This connection between our schools and the M-W community is at the core of the work we do as a school district. It’s all about supporting each other, lending a helping hand and showing compassion for all people. It extends much further than just the work we do in the classroom. The love that was reflected this holiday season truly reflects what we stand for and what we believe in. I’m so proud to be a part of Monroe-Woodbury,” said Superintendent of Schools Elsie Rodriguez.
