2019 Collaborators of Excellence Caruso and BleakleyThe New York State English Council recently honored Ms. Michaela Caruso and Ms. Meghan Bleakley, M-W Humanities teachers, as 2019 Collaborators of Excellence. The Collaborator of Excellence Award recognizes team teaching with an extensive literacy component that inspires excellence in students and teachers.

Monroe-Woodbury’s Humanities Program pairs one English teacher with one Social Studies teacher working with a cohort of fifty students. These students all take English 9 classes with Ms. Caruso and Global History with Ms. Bleakley. In addition, students meet every other day for a Humanities lab/conference. The lab/conference period provides time for writing workshops and conference times as well as research and integrated projects that enhance learning opportunities for both courses. Students explore and discuss the human experience in both literature and history in a format that encourages cross-curricular understanding, critical thinking and development of public speaking skills. For the last three years, a highlight of this Humanities course has been a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art designed to increase interest in the time periods and areas of the world that are addressed in the courses, including Greece and Egypt.

Monroe-Woodbury is proud to congratulate these innovative award-winning members of our faculty. #mwinspiresuccess
