FBLA meets the NY Knicks

on February 19, 2019

The Monroe-Woodbury High School Sports and Entertainment class, along with the FBLA members, recently visited NYC to attend a Q&A meeting with key employees from Madison Square Garden. When they arrived, students were met by Molly Guidice, MSG Sports Client Representative, who brought them to the corporate offices in Penn Plaza to meet with the following panel:

  • Bari Chavis – Graphic Designer
  • Austin Scherling – Account Manager, Marketing Partnerships
  • Mike Ali – Alumni Relations, New York Rangers
  • Eric Podbielski – Manager, Team Sales Marketing Partnerships

While in the conference area, students were given a Knicks straw string bag, tshirt and hat, and were offered refreshments.  Each panel member gave the students a close look at what they do in their position, and how it plays a vital role at MSG.  Students had a chance to ask questions about their career path, opportunities available in the Sports Marketing field, and receive advice about entering the workforce.

Before the game, students were given a private tour of the sports arena and were able to watch players warm up. During the game, Monroe-Woodbury was announced on the Jumbotron, making everyone feel like a celebrity. After the game, a special “meet and greet” session was arranged at the Madison Club where Knicks player #32, Noah Vonleh, spoke with the group and posed for pictures. It was a very busy day, but a great learning experience for the students.
