Girls’ Track wins 5th consecutive OCIAA & Section 9 Titles

Team Champions

The Monroe-Woodbury High School girls’ track team enjoyed back-to-back winning weekends.

On May 20, the girls’ track team won their fifth straight OCIAA Championship, defeating Warwick with a score of 146 points for Monroe-Woodbury vs. 87 points for Warwick.  First place winners from the meet include 2,000 steeplechase winner Annie Kurdziel and the 3200 relay winning team consisting of Annie Kurdziel, Jessica Pidgeon, Daniella Napoli and Rachel Hirschkind.

On May 26, the team’sinning streak continued when the girls won their fifth consecutive Section 9 Class A Championship. M-W winners include: Jessica Pidgeon for 800 meter race; Rachel Hirshkind in the 3000 meter; and Kristin Lubeske in pole vault.  The M-W 4×400 relay team including Kristin Lubeskie, Katie Conter, Angela Iaccrino and Asya Jeune placed second and the 4×800 relay team including Jessica Pidgeon, Ella DePhillips, Rachel Kirschkind, Julia Hoyt placed third.

The overall win was a team effort with an additional 18 athletes scoring in the top 5 places for their events.
