Gymnast Shannon Miller tells students “health is your greatest gift”

Seven-time Olympic Gold Medalist gymnast and ovarian cancer survivor Shannon Miller visited Monroe-Woodbury High School on Wednesday, September 20, as part of an event designed to increase awareness of ovarian cancer. Approximately 700 female student-athletes from Section IX schools attended the presentation sponsored by the Corinne Feller Memorial Fund. The event featured an informational video sharing former Valley Central scholar-athlete Corinne Feller’s battle with ovarian cancer and featuring an oncologist from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Corinne Feller was a life-long Montgomery resident and standout student and athlete at Valley Central High School. After a 10-month battle, Corinne died of ovarian cancer at age 18. Since 1999, the Corinne Feller Memorial Fun has raised funding for local ovarian cancer awareness programs and quality of life initiatives, as well as research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
