Message from the Superintendent heading

Dear Monroe-Woodbury families,

Today marks the end of an unforgettable school year. Whether your student is a kindergartner or a high school senior, we celebrate them – and you – for all that you have accomplished during these difficult times. I hope that you take a moment to breathe, refresh and relax. Enjoy special moments with friends and family as the summer break begins.

I can’t thank you enough for your unwavering support as the school district has navigated its way through a cyber threat, a global health crisis resulting in the closing of schools, and nationwide social unrest. I have been reminded time and again that this community is resilient, strong and caring. We are so proud of our students and families!

As summer begins, so does the work of the district leadership team as we prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. During the next two weeks, we will be collaborating with a volunteer group of 80+ teachers, students, parents, Board of Education members and local leaders, to create a reopening plan for the 2020-2021 school year. In addition, I will be serving on a State Regional Planning Team with community leaders throughout the Hudson Valley region.

Many unknowns remain, so we will be formulating plans that incorporate action steps and strategies considering various scenarios. The school district has not yet received any guidance from the state level. Preliminary plans must be submitted to the state in mid-July, and then the district must wait for guidance and/or approval before moving forward with a plan.

We continue to look for options that are best for both our students and families. Please take a few moments to complete the M-W Remote Learning Parent/Guardian Questionnaire to help identify issues and guide district leaders in the coming weeks.

We will keep families informed via text, email and the district website as planning proceeds. We will send summaries of the work we are doing to families on a regular basis and create a place on the district website where more detailed information will be available. As always, your input and questions are welcome.

Wishing you and your loved ones a healthy, happy summer.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
