Important Update to Free Meals Program – September 18, 2020

on September 18, 2020

Food Services letterhead

Dear Monroe-Woodbury families,

The school district has recently learned that the federally funded free meal program has been extended until further notice. As a result, the school district will continue to offer breakfast and lunch at no charge to families until available funding runs out.

Students who are attending school in person will have the opportunity to have free breakfast and lunch during the school day. Breakfast and lunch offerings for September will be posted to the district website on September 21. When students return to the buildings, they will be informed of new safety protocols within our cafeterias.

A la carte offerings will not be covered under this federal funding and will be limited at the start of the year. If your child wishes to purchase a la carte items while in school, the cost will be deducted from your student meal account. To minimize interaction between staff and students, no change will be given if your child pays with cash. Any change will be deposited into their student meal account. We strongly urge families to utilize the online TITAN Family Portal to deposit money into their student meal account.

Families are invited to pick up meals at the M-W school building of their choice, Tuesday through Friday, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Meals are prepared on a daily basis and provide for one breakfast and one lunch per child, per day.

For those families unable to access schools during the midday, meals will also be available for pick up at Central Valley Elementary on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. This service will begin on Tuesday, September 22. In order to ensure meals are available, parents/guardians are urged to pre-order by email to [email protected].

Finally, if pick up at a school building is not a feasible option, families may contact [email protected] to coordinate home delivery.

We are committed to supporting our families during these difficult times and are pleased to offer nutritious, well balanced meals each weekday. The school district will keep families informed regarding the status of the federal funding and the steps that will be taken once these federal funds are no longer available.

If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Food Service Office.

I hope you and your family remain well.
