Dear Monroe-Woodbury families,

The disturbing incidents at last Friday night’s football game involving Monroe-Woodbury students have resulted in many constructive discussions this week. While we are disheartened and disappointed in the behavior displayed by some of our students, we remain hopeful that the M-W school community can work together to create an environment that is safe and enjoyable for all.

District leaders, high school administration, the district safety team and our athletic department, worked closely with state and local law enforcement to determine next steps for addressing the discipline issues at football games. After careful consideration, the decision has been made to no longer host football games on Friday nights for the remainder of the fall season. Games originally scheduled for Friday nights will now take place on Saturday afternoons. The athletic department will provide an updated schedule.

We hope to have the opportunity to host games under the lights again in the future. These types of events promote a sense of community and spirit, a special element of the football experience.

Steps such as this are necessary to send a clear message that disrespectful, disruptive and violent behavior will never be tolerated in Monroe-Woodbury. We remain steadfast and unwavering in our commitment to keeping our students and families safe.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
