Local author/teacher shares rhyming book with Smith Clove students

on November 27, 2017

On Thursday November 9, Smith Clove hosted author Renee Pearce, who shared her rhyming picture book, Jackson and Auggie: Adventure in the Hudson Valley.  Mrs. Pearce is a teacher in Monroe-Woodbury and her son attends Smith Clove. She has a true love and appreciation for the district and her home in the Hudson Valley. The visit gave Mrs. Pearce a chance to see her son, as well as reunite with some of her former teachers: Ms. Fillingham, Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Sullivan.

The story is a children’s travelogue that is set in the beautiful Hudson Valley region of New York. The story and brilliant illustrations delight young readers, while providing a lasting impression of this very beautiful geographical area. It was published by Strategic Publishing in 2012 and has sold over 1,000 copies!

The story begins when a curious Siamese cat and a mischievous Boxer puppy wander too far from home. The “Tail” continues as Jackson and Auggie set out on an adventure. Along the way, they learn all about the historic Hudson Valley. Eventually, the two begin to miss their homes, so they return, excited about everything they saw.

Jackson and Auggie: Adventure in the Hudson Valley features illustrations rendered in various artistic styles. Children will find intriguing information about the different artists, art movements and styles used listed in the back of the book. This book serves as a wonderful teaching opportunity for both local history and art appreciation.

Smith Clove was pleased to welcome Mrs. Pearce and offer this opportunity for students. The presentation included a reading and book talk, in addition to correlating activities for students to engage in.

If students are interested in a book signed by the author, Mrs. Pearce will be at the Smith Clove Holiday Boutique Family Night on Tuesday, December 5  from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
