Monroe-Woodbury senior, Yena Lee, is the recipient of the first-ever ‘Scholar Musician Flute Grant’ from the North Bridge Instrument Company. Renowned flute manufacturer, Chris McKenna, personally hand-made Lee’s headjoint. McKenna is the founder of Gem Headjoints, Inc., and co-founder of Weissman-McKenna Piccolos. After having been made aware of Yena’s many musical accomplishments during her time as a student at Monroe-Woodbury, Mr. McKenna and North Bridge decided to begin this grant program.
Lee performed in the role of principal flute earlier this school year at the NYSSMA All-State Conference in Rochester, and will performing at the NAfME All-Eastern Conference on April 7 in Pittsburgh. She studies flute with Ms. Merryl Newler and is principal flute in the Monroe-High School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mr. Richard Regan.
