M-W musicians earn highest honors at music competition

on May 3, 2019

Monroe-Woodbury High School musicians were big winners at the recent World Strides Heritage Festival music competition outside Boston, MA.  Stellar performances took place by three musical ensembles: Voice Ensemble (under the direction of Dr. David Crone); Chamber Orchestra (under the direction of Bonnie Glazier); and Wind Ensemble (under the direction of Richard Regan).

All three groups earned the highest ratings, as well as 1st place in their respective categories (chorus, orchestra, and band).  In addition, the school won the sweepstakes for top overall program, as well as the coveted adjudicator’s award.  Two students, Victor Yang (clarinet) and Justin Brander (bass clarinet) earned individual soloist awards.

Monroe-Woodbury’s music program also recently celebrated receiving the NAMM foundation’s “Best Community for Music Education” award for the 8th year in a row.
