M-W schools closed through March 27

Today Orange County Executive Steve Neuhaus recommended that all Orange County schools close for the next two weeks, starting Monday, March 16, as a precaution due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus.

“Closing schools is a preventative measure that has been taken throughout New York State and the country. After careful and serious discussion with Orange County’s Health Commissioner, Dr. Irina Gelman, and the County’s school superintendents, we feel that this is the most prudent course of action for our County schools. The intention is to protect our students, faculty and administration from contracting COVID-19, and to mitigate the spread of the virus,” Neuhaus said.

All Monroe-Woodbury schools will be closed from Monday, March 16 through Friday, March 27. Schools are scheduled to reopen on Monday, March 30.

It is at times like this that I am especially grateful for a supportive community that serves as a true partner with the school district, especially during difficult times. We will be in touch on Sunday with additional information for students and families regarding access to the school buildings, food distribution and academic resources.
