Meet Emily Wang, 2020-2021 Student BOE Representative

Get to know rising senior Emily Wang, newly appointed Student Board of Education Representative for the 2020-2021 school year. Welcome aboard, Emily!Emily Wang, Student Board of Education representative

Q: How many years have you been going to school in M-W?
A: I have been going to Monroe-Woodbury since kindergarten at Smith Clove.

Q: What activities/sports/organizations are you involved in?
A: I have been playing piano for over 11 years, and I spend my time preparing for international piano competitions! I am currently playing the cello in the Chamber Orchestra, and I organize a small Chamber ensemble called Perfect Harmony that performs at Senior Centers. I am an active member of the Orange County Chinese Association Youth (OCCA), an organization that has hosted various events to represent the Asian Americans in our community. I played a year of JV Lacrosse and I also love skiing/snowboarding. I will be spending this summer interning at Senator James Skoufis’s office.

Q: How do you view the role of BOE Student Representative?
A: I see this role as a great opportunity to share the voices of the students at Monroe-Woodbury. I hope to truly represent my peers by bringing greater awareness of mutual community issues to light.

Q: What do you hope to accomplish next year as Student BOE Representative?
A: I hope to make a lasting difference that will ensure the security and wellness of all students at MW.

Q: Describe yourself in three words.
A: Open-minded, passionate and ambitious.

Q: Describe M-W in three words.
A: Inspiring, determined, positive.

Q: Favorite memory of school (so far)?
A: I was fortunate enough to be picked to attend WE Day UN at the Barclays center. This was a really fun and enriching day that was very memorable. I’m glad to have been a part of such an event.

Q: What is something that people don’t know about you?
A: I am insanely in love with cities, NYC specifically! I have spent the past 6 summers doing musical theater in Manhattan and I fall back in love with it every time I go. I love the diverse atmosphere and hustle; NYC at night is one of my favorite places in the world!
