Message from Mr. Kaste regarding senior events

June 5, 2020

Good Evening Monroe-Woodbury Class of 2020 and Families,

I hope that you and your families are continuing to do well.

I know that we are all still holding out hope for a traditional graduation ceremony on July 31, 2020.  The High School Administration and Staff and the All Night Graduation Committee continue to create opportunities to celebrate our seniors during this difficult time.

These past few months have been hard, but you deserve to be celebrated.  You deserve to be given the best experiences in light of really challenging restrictions.  Your year is not over as we still have a number of events to celebrate you.

  • The next event, “Breakfast for Dinner,” will take place on Monday, June 8, 2020 from 6 – 8 PM.  You received a flyer concerning this yesterday.  I would like to emphasize that this will be a “Breakfast for Dinner” event.  The food and beverage that students will be receiving are breakfast items.  We will be having a dunk tank and other fun activities.  We look forward to seeing our seniors on Monday.

  • I am also excited to share with you some details of the Drive-Up graduation event scheduled for June 22 – 25, 2020.  This event will provide graduates and their families the opportunity to partake in some of the traditional elements that exist in a full graduation ceremony.  Specifically, while wearing their cap and gown, graduates will receive their diploma, walk across the stage, have their name announced, and have their photo taken.  Parents and guardians will also be able to take video/photos during this time.  Any individual in attendance must wear a mask or face covering. Seniors may remove their masks or face coverings while crossing the stage or having their individual photo taken by the school.

On June 22, 23 and 25, the event will occur from 4 – 8 PM. On June 24, the event will be held from 12 – 4 PM.  The reason for the earlier start on June 24 is because we are finalizing a Senior Car Parade that will begin at 6pm.  More details about the parade will be shared next week.

There will be two stages set up in front of the high school in the bus parking lot.  We are setting up 15 minute blocks for each stage during which 5 graduates and their parents/guardians can come and have their graduate walk across the stage.  We will adhere to social distancing guidelines as the individual graduates have their opportunity to be on the stage.  We will be using pickAtime to schedule the event.  To help you with your planning, any graduate on Stage 1 will enter through the Middle School and Stage 2 will enter through Central Valley Elementary School and proceed up the new access road to the high school.  We will have clear signage for those that will be on stage 2. In the event your family has more than one graduate, you will only need to sign up for one time slot.  We will allow only one non commercial vehicle per family.

PickAtime will open for families on Monday, June 8, 2020 at 6 AM to schedule their time.  Please know that we will hold the event rain or shine.  We will only cancel in the event of thunder/lightning.   We will be using June 26, 2020 as a severe weather make-up date.

On your scheduled day, please do not attend if anyone is displaying symptoms consistent with COVID-19,  has tested positive for COVID-19 within the last 14 days, or within the last 14 days was a close or proximate contact of an individual who had symptoms of COVID-19 or tested positive for COVID-19.  Everyone must wear masks.</p]

We will send a reminder about the event as we get closer to June 22, 2020.

Lastly, our Seniors names are being broadcast on the LED message board at Central Valley Elementary School.  Click here for more details.

The High School Staff and I continue to keep you all in our thoughts during this difficult time.

Sincerely,

John S. Kaste
