M-W CARES

The school district’s first M-W CARES Day was held at the High School in October 2018. Since then, the district has been working to spread the message of Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, Empowerment and Success throughout the Monroe-Woodbury community. These important qualities have been shared with our students and staff through a variety of social emotional initiatives, professional development opportunities and curriculum enhancements designed to reach all members of the M-W school family with this important message. The goal of offering M-W CARES Day every other year was realized with the announcement of the second M-W CARES program in October 2020.

M-W CARES Day 2020 – October 26

We are excited to share that all of our schools will be participating in this important event. The district will also be hosting the county-wide kick off for Red Ribbon Week on that day. Students from throughout Orange County will be visiting the high school, middle school and Central Valley. This event marks the first time a school district will be hosting a multi-building kick off to Red Ribbon Week.

Poster for MW CARES bricksIn an effort to “cement the commitment” of our community to raise awareness of Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, Empowerment and Success, M-W school buildings will feature their very own M-W CARES bricks beginning in 2020. Families, staff, community members, local businesses and other members of the M-W community will now have the opportunity to purchase a personalized brick at the school of their choice. Bricks will be displayed at a designated location at each building.

Personalized bricks will be available for purchase until June 8, 2020. You can order online or print an order form and return it to the building you are purchasing the brick to be displayed. More information can be found on the Brick Ordering Page of the district website.

Thank you for your continued support of our goal to build a culture of Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, Empowerment and Success in our buildings and beyond. Please reach out to the main office of your child’s school with any questions.

The beginning of M-W CARES Day

M-W CARES began with the mission of spreading Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, Empowerment and Success throughout the Monroe-Woodbury community. Members from throughout the school community, including administrators, teachers, staff, local businesses, organizations, alumni and more came together to discuss ways of spreading this important message to all students and their families. M-W CARES Day, which took place on October 26, 2018 was born. Read more about the origins of M-W CARES.

After more than a year of planning, more than 100+ presenters from all walks of life came to Monroe-Woodbury High School to share their personal journeys: stories of overcoming seemingly impossible physical and emotional obstacles; facing despair with hope and courage; and taking steps to alter their lives in an effort to be a better person. These are real people telling real stories. They will address difficult topics with honest, heart-wrenching, personal details. The hope was that their inspiring stories would change the way students and staff view our world and the people they meet along the way.

While M-W CARES Day took place in one 24 hour period, the intent of the M-W CARES committee is help strengthen the culture in our buildings by hosting guest speakers and special events reinforcing the message of compassion, acceptance, respect, empowerment and success throughout the school year.
