M-W CARES

Rohan Murphy to present free family event on January 9

M-W CARES presents motivational speaker Rohan Murphy on Wednesday, January 9 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Murphy was one of the more than 100 presenters on M-W CARES Day 2018 and has been invited back to share his story with the entire M-W community. Murphy’s life story is a gripping tale of adversity, dedication and living life with a purpose. Childcare and translators will be available at the free family event on January 9.  If you require either, please email mwcares@mw.k12.ny.us

M-W CARES began with the mission of spreading Compassion, Acceptance, Respect, Empowerment and Success throughout the Monroe-Woodbury community. Members from throughout the school community, including administrators, teachers, staff, local businesses, organizations, alumni and more came together to discuss ways of spreading this important message to all students and their families. M-W CARES Day, which took place on October 26, was born. Read more about the origins of M-W CARES.

After more than a year of planning, more than 100+ presenters from all walks of life came to Monroe-Woodbury High School to share their personal journeys: stories of overcoming seemingly impossible physical and emotional obstacles; facing despair with hope and courage; and taking steps to alter their lives in an effort to be a better person. These are real people telling real stories. They will address difficult topics with honest, heart-wrenching, personal details. The hope was that their inspiring stories would change the way students and staff view our world and the people they meet along the way.

While M-W CARES Day took place in one 24 hour period, the intent of the M-W CARES committee is help strengthen the culture in our buildings by hosting guest speakers and special events reinforcing the message of compassion, acceptance, respect, empowerment and success throughout the school year, beginning with Rohan Murphy on January 9, 2019.
