NYS Senator James Skoufis honored MWHS sophomore Rohan Sonakya with an official NYS Senate Proclamation on Friday, March 26, 2021, for his work as an active and dedicated participant and volunteer in his community.

Helping those in need is a top priority of Rohan’s, even at such a young age. He volunteers for the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church in New Windsor and its 5K Chocolate Run, which collects funds to support the work of the Country Kids Food Pantry and participated in the Journey & Rise Against Hunger, packaging food for over 50,000 people.

Rohan’s service goes beyond his Woodbury community. He has served as the President of local chapters of the 4-H Club and the Help Foundation, where he coached other members, and raised $700 with his team, helping two children in India stay in school.

“Rohan represents true Crusader spirit and integrity,” said M-W Superintendent of Schools Elsie Rodriguez. “During difficult times, it’s people like Rohan who shine the light of hope and resilience. We are so proud of him and the amazing, selfless work he is doing in the community and beyond.”
