Message from Mr. Giudice

Welcome back to school, Pine Tree!  Our 2017-2018 school year is going to be great as we welcome back our returning students and we welcome new students as well.  Our family in this learning community takes pride in helping children learn and achieve academically in a safe environment.  Our students’ academic, social, and emotional growth is what we all enjoy seeing developed on a daily basis.

Our team of teacher and non-instructional staff have been working hard to prepare the classrooms and building for the upcoming school year.  Our office staff and custodians need to be commended for their tireless work during the months of July and August.  The eleven and twelve month employees take pride in their work during the summer as evidenced by the tremendous amount of work that was successfully accomplished during this past summer.

students on the first day of schoolFor the second year, we will continue to implement the Lucy Calkin’s Writer’s Workshop.  The students and teachers will be starting their second year and the language and philosophy will continue to become part of the culture of learning in our building.  We will once again have the support from Columbia University regarding professional development.  The instructors from the university will work with our teachers and students for the second year in a row.   Seeing the work samples in the hallways, during my observations, and informal walk throughs are all proof of the successful implementation of this instructional philosophy.

Please help us get off to a great start by making sure students arrive to school on time each and every day.  Students should be in their seats by the time announcements start at 9:20 AM.  Arrival between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. is the best way for our students to have a great productive day. Their day should begin without feeling rushed.

Thank you and on behalf of my Assistant Principal, Mr. Martin, welcome back !!!

Just a reminder….All students are expected to be in school and in their classrooms by 9:20 a.m. The instructional school day starts at 9:20 a.m. and ends at 3:35 p.m. Thank you for your support!

Mr. Martin’s Notes

We have many special events going on here throughout the year, and encourage our students and parents to be involved and stay connected. Your active participation is key to the success of your children during their elementary school years. Pine Tree PTA News

Dear Pine Tree Families,

On behalf of the Pine Tree PTA, I would like to welcome everyone back to school!

What is the PTA and who can be a Member?
PTA stands for Parent-Teacher Association, consisting of parents and teachers working together to support and enrich all students.  We support school staff, help promote student self-esteem, and assist in efforts to solve school needs through volunteering and funding. The PTA is also a nationwide network that provides parents with the forum and tools to collectively influence the decisions that affect children not only at their schools, but also throughout their districts, within their states, and across the nation. This mission is unique to the PTA.

The Pine Tree PTA is made up of several officers: I am excited to be returning as President; Ivy D’Onofrio, Vice-President; Melissa McHugh, Vice-President; Eliza Reynolds, Corresponding Secretary; Nicole Anderson, Treasurer; Widna Taveras, Recording Secretary; and not to mention our wonderful school staff and volunteers.

So, who can be a member?
Are you a father, mother, guardian, and/or faculty or staff member at Pine Tree?  If you answered YES, then we would like you to become a member.

PTA Programs & Fundraising
Our primary objective as a PTA is to provide our school with funds, programs, resources, and services that will enrich and maximize the education of every child and to benefit the school. To meet this important objective, we fundraise. Here are a few programs that we sponsor and/or support: Movie Night, Book Fair, Holiday Boutique, Fall & Spring School Pictures, School Assemblies, Family BINGO Night, Spring Fest, Teacher Appreciation, 5th Grade Picnic & Activities, Field Day, and various other fundraisers throughout the year.

Become a Volunteer….Why YOU should get involved!
As you can see, we are a small and busy group. This is where you can come in! We need your help, and so do your children. A special thanks to all of our volunteers from last year for all their hard work and dedication. Here at Pine Tree, we strive for excellence and what better way than to become involved today. The PTA is a team effort and we cannot succeed on our own.  Please come and join us!
