Preparing for the budget vote: voter status, absentee ballot, military ballot information

The Monroe-Woodbury Central School District budget vote will take place in-person on Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Central Valley Elementary School from 6 a.m. – 9 p.m. Please see information below to ensure you have taken the necessary steps to be able to place your vote (in-person or via absentee ballot) for the 2021-2022 school budget.

You are a qualified voter if you are a:

  • US Citizen
  • 18 years of age by May 18, 2021
  • Resident of the district for 30 days immediately preceding the vote
  • Registered to vote with the district

If you meet the first three voter qualifications listed but have not registered to vote:

  • you must register in order to vote in the School Budget Vote

Voter registration options:

  1. Register with the Orange County Board of Elections by mail
  2. Register online at the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles website at: https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application
  3. Register online with New York State Board of Elections at: https://www.elections.ny.gov/
  4. MWCSD Only Registration
    1. it is not necessary to register with MWCSD if you are already a registered voter
    2. if you are not a registered voter but want to participate in the MWCSD Budget Vote, use this form:

    4. Members of the military may register to vote in the Monroe-Woodbury School Budget vote only using:

Voting by Absentee Ballot

Registered voters may request and use an Absentee Ballot in advance of the election if they are unable to vote in person for any of the following reasons:

  • Absence from the county on election day
  • Temporary illness or physical disability
  • Permanent illness or Physical disability
  • Duties related to primary care of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled
  • Resident or patient of Veterans Health Administration Hospital
  • Detention in jail/prison, awaiting trial, awaiting action by a grand jury, or in prison for conviction of a crime or offense which was not a felony

In order to apply for an Official Absentee Ballot you must first be a registered voter with the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District.  If you are not a registered voter, you may not receive an absentee ballot.  If you are registered, we will consider your application. Please see the Absentee Ballot Instructions page for more details.

The absentee ballot application must be filled out, dated and signed.  The application must then be given to the district clerk as follows:

Applications for Absentee Ballot will not be accepted prior to Monday, April 19, 2021.

If you would like the Official Absentee Ballot mailed to you, the Application for Absentee Ballot must be received by the District Clerk no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

If you would like to pick up your Official Absentee Ballot, the Application for Absentee Ballot must be received by the District Clerk no later than 4:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2021.

Military Voters

This application registers a Military Voter with the School District only. Service members who with to register as Military Voters with the county or state should contact the appropriate Board of Elections.

Military voters must submit a separate military ballot application for each election at whihc they wish to cast a vote, excepting any necessary budget revote.
