Principal message for families – October 15

on October 15, 2021

Dear Monroe-Woodbury Middle School Parents,

I am writing regarding a situation at Monroe-Woodbury Middle School that was brought to the attention of building administrators this morning, October 15th.

Specifically, a Monroe-Woodbury Middle School parent reported to a staff member that her child had heard about a threat to the school made during a private Snapchat conversation. As is protocol, district administration immediately notified the Middle School SRO, district safety staff, and contacted local law enforcement. A full investigation was conducted and the threat was found to be unsubstantiated.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff is always our top priority. Each and every perceived threat made to the school district, whether verbal, written or posted on social media, will be taken seriously. Law enforcement will conduct a thorough investigation and the individual will face serious disciplinary action, per our Student Code of Conduct.

We encourage all parents to speak with their children about the potential dangers of using social media. If students or parents are made aware of something of concern on social media they should report it immediately to building administration. The school district and the M-W community must work together to eliminate these types of situations. We are grateful to the parent who came forward this morning with her concerns and encourage all members of our school community to partner with us in keeping our children and staff safe.

If you have questions related to this incident, please email me at [email protected] or call 845-460-6400 x6401.

Sincerely,

Michael Maesano
MWMS Principal
