March 3, 2021

Dear Monroe-Woodbury families and staff,

I am writing to share the district’s next steps toward the full reopening of schools. Despite many barriers, the district is moving forward with plans for the remainder of the school year. In anticipation of new social distancing guidelines and increased availability of vaccines, the school district will be taking the appropriate steps to increase in-person instructional days for all students.

Outlined below is the district’s general plan for this next phase of reopening. Our primary focus remains the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

In preparation for an increase of students in our buildings, we will collaborate with medical professionals whose insights and expertise will be a critical resource. We will also be working closely with our reopening committees, consisting of teachers, parents, students and community members, with a specific focus on K-5 and 6-12 levels.

Mondays revert to synchronous “live” instruction as of March 15

Monday, March 15: Mondays will revert to live instruction, which provides one additional day of live instruction for remote students and one additional day of in-person instruction for hybrid cohorts. Hybrid cohorts will add Mondays to their in-person schedule on alternating weeks.

For example, A Cohort students will attend school in-person on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday during the week of March 15. B Cohort students will attend school in-person on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the week of March 22, and so forth. D Cohort students will attend school five days per week.

Transition to five days of in-person learning

In mid April, we will focus on transitioning our K-5 students to five days of in-person learning. We recognize the importance of having our youngest students in the buildings on a consistent basis.

During the fourth quarter, we will then look to transition our middle and high school students to in-person learning. Please know that I will continue to provide updates.

Parent/guardian questionnaire

To aid in planning, principals will soon share a questionnaire regarding student schedules for the rest of the 2020-2021 school year. You will receive important information with the questionnaire in order to make an informed decision regarding your child’s schedule for the remainder of the year. Your responses are vital to our planning process. Administrators will be using the data to develop building-specific plans for a safe return to school.

The behind-the-scenes work continues on a daily basis, with an unwavering focus on providing a safe, supportive experience for all Monroe-Woodbury students and staff. A strong partnership between the school community and the school district is the foundation of our future.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
