Senior Daniel Luo earns National Merit Scholarship

Monroe-Woodbury High School senior Daniel Luo has been selected as a winner of a prestigious $2,500 National Merit Scholarship. Merit Scholar designees are selected on the basis of their skills, accomplishments and potential for success in rigorous college studies.From approximately 1.6 million students who entered the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 16,000 were named Semifinalists and 7,500 were named finalists.

In order to advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, a Finalist had to fulfill several requirements that included submitting a detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic performance. All winners of approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarships were chosen from the group of approximately 15,000 distinguished Finalists.

Scholarships are underwritten by the NMSC with its own funds and by approximately 410 business organizations and higher education institutions that share NMSC’s goals of honoring the nation’s scholastic champions and encouraging the pursuit of academic excellence.
