Boys and girls soccer teams to be honored at MaxPreps Tour of Champions on January 16; celebrate our Crusaders!

On Wednesday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m., M-W boys and girls varsity soccer teams will be presented the Army National Guard national ranking trophy as part of the 14th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions. The special celebration, presented by the Army National Guard, is in its 8th year honoring soccer, will take place in the high school gym during halftime of the M-W boys basketball game.

Monroe-Woodbury boys varsity soccer team finished No. 9 in the final rankings and is one of 10 boys soccer teams being honored on this season’s tour. The girls varsity soccer team, which finished No. 30 in the nation, will also be honored. The presentations will be made during halftime of the M-W boy’s varsity basketball game. The MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard recognizes the finest high school soccer teams in the country through various celebrations and formal ceremonies.

Monroe-Woodbury High School soccer teams swept the NYSPHSAA Class 2A state championships. The boys completed their undefeated 21-0 season with a 2-0 win over Clarence to claim their first NYSPHSAA Class 2A Boys Soccer State Title. They ended the season as the No. 1 team in New York. The girls finished their season 19-1-1 with a 1-0 win over Bethlehem Central to also claim their first NYSPHSAA Class 2A state title. They ended the season as the No. 1 team in New York. Monroe-Woodbury is one of 10 boys and one of 10 girls soccer teams being honored on the 14th annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. MaxPreps ranks over 16,000 boys and girls varsity high school teams.

The Tour was inaugurated in 2005 and honored 10 premier football programs. Presently, the Football Tour honors 50 of the top scholastic teams in America. In 2007, boys basketball was added and girls basketball became a part of the award program the following year. Girls volleyball joined the mix in 2010 and in 2011 girls soccer joined the program. Boys soccer became the newest addition the following season. Representatives from the Army National Guard will present each team with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy in recognition of their outstanding achievements throughout the 2018 season.
