Souza Music/Performing Arts Scholarships due April 8

on February 21, 2019

For over 30 years, the Souza Scholarship Committee has granted monetary awards to high school seniors in the form of college tuition payments, awarded to one or more deserving students. Grants are also made to students in grades 6-11 to be used to encourage further development in music or the performing arts, i.e, summer music camp, specialized workshops, advanced lessons or training, and more. Underclassmen are eligible to apply more than once for an award.  A student who receives a middle school award may apply again once he or she enters the high school. Once a student in grades 9-11 receives a scholarship, he or she may only then apply again as a graduating senior.

The history of the Souza Scholarships:

Robert W. Souza came to the Monroe-Woodbury Middle School in 1966 as an instrumental music teacher. During his 14 years at Monroe-Woodbury, he served in many capacities including district music coordinator. The Souza Memorial Scholarships were instituted shortly after Mr. Souza’s untimely death in 1980. The Monroe-Woodbury Teachers’ and the Monroe-Woodbury Administrator’s Associations decided to memorialize Bob in a special way by creating scholarships in music and the performing arts for seniors, and also for students in grades 6-11.

How to apply:

Application forms and more detailed information about the scholarship for all middle school and high school students can be found on the Souza Scholarship website:
