Message from Superintendent letterhead

April 12, 2021

Dear Monroe-Woodbury families and staff,

What a wonderful “first day” day for our young Crusaders! Nothing compares to having our students back in the buildings. Overall, today was a successful and exciting day for our M-W school community.

The NYS Department of Health has just released Interim Guidance for In-Person Instruction for school districts, addressing in-person instruction, social distancing and the reopening of schools. The good news is that our K-5 buildings are in compliance with the new guidelines. The only exception is the Health Department’s note that the CDC no longer recommends barriers as a mitigation measure in schools. We intend to keep barriers in place for now as we evaluate this new guidance.

The new guidance presents questions related to the safe reopening of MWMS and MWHS, specifically as it pertains to social distancing. As we await clarity from the Orange County Department of Health, district leadership will make a final determination about the safe reopening of these buildings. I will provide an update at the end of the week.

I have attached the full 24-page guidance document for your reference.

Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to bring our students back to school.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
