Superintendent Update – April 17

on April 17, 2020

Message from the Superintendent heading

Dear M-W families,

As always, you are in my thoughts each day and I hope that you and your loved ones are feeling well and staying safe. The longer this “pause” continues, the more we miss our students and families.

I hope that you and your children now have a regular schedule in place that works well for your family. The future remains uncertain, so having an established remote learning structure is very important.

I have a few updates to share as we wrap up another school week:

  • Governor Cuomo announced during his April 16 press briefing that New York state will remain “on pause” through May 15 to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19. As part of this order, schools throughout the state will remain closed through May 15. The governor could extend the closure again if he feels it is necessary to contain the virus.
  • Our teachers have been in contact with students and their families to provide instructional materials and will continue to do so throughout this extended closure in accordance with the district’s plan for continuing instruction. I hope that the Remote Learning Center has been helpful to you and your children.
  • We will be emailing a brief online survey to families as a check-in to see how everyone is faring. This survey will ask for insights related to remote learning, social emotional needs and more. Please keep an eye out for it in your email next week.
  • The district’s food service department will continue to provide meals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Central Valley, North Main and Smith Clove.
  • School districts throughout the state are required to postpone the school budget vote until after June 1, 2020. Monroe-Woodbury plans to hold the budget vote on Tuesday, June 2, 2020. This date may change again based on direction from the state level.

We appreciate the patience and flexibility of our families during this challenging time. The district will continue to provide updates on the website as more information becomes available.

Enjoy your weekend! Do something that makes you smile.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
