With information related to the Coronavirus dominating world news, I want to assure you that the school district is continuously monitoring the situation. We have been following directives set forth by the NYS Department of Health, Orange County Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. To date, there are still no confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in the state of New York.

In addition to monitoring the situation, the district is using special equipment and sanitizing products that disinfect instructional areas and surfaces in our school buildings, as well as our school buses. The sanitizer kills norovirus, MRSA, as well as cold and flu viruses and is approved for use in schools by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

We encourage all families to continue using smart hygiene practices such as frequent hand washing, getting plenty of rest and fluids, covering coughs and sneezes, cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and staying home when sick. Families are also reminded to avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. There are several online resources listed below that provide information about how the virus is spread and preventative steps families may take.

The district will continue to follow guidance from the New York State Education Department and the Orange County Department of Health as the situation evolves. Our actions to date have been, and will continue to be, in alignment with their directives. Dialogue among administrators and staff is ongoing as we contemplate various scenarios and make preparations moving forward. The well-being of our families and staff is always our first consideration.

Please reach out to your school’s health office if you have any questions or concerns. We will continue to provide information to you as more is learned about the virus.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
