Important traffic update from NY DoT – August 15

on August 15, 2019

The Department of Transportation announced changes to the ramps from Route 17 to Route 32 that will become effective in the next few days. Please look carefully at the diagrams, which are a bit confusing.

ROUTE 32 & Route 17

Motorists on Route 32 will remain in the current traffic pattern over the coming weeks. Please use caution while traveling through the work zone as construction activities are scheduled to continue in the medians. Construction activities will continue on Route 17 over the coming months. Please allow extra time while traveling as there may be traffic delays.

Over the coming days, motorists will experience two traffic changes in the area of Ramp F (Route 17WB to Route 32). Changes will be implemented over two phases.

  • Phase one will shift traffic onto the new Ramp F and eliminate the existing dedicated entrance into Woodbury Common Premium Outlets.
  • Phase two will later establish a temporary dedicated entrance into WCPO. Please note, access to Nininger Road will require motorists to make a left turn after exiting north on Route 32.

This update replaces the normal exit coming off the Thruway going to Route 32. In the photo below, the bus and traffic at the bottom of the photo are on the normal exit. The new exit is shown in green. Note in both photos below that when drivers come off the new ramp, they will need to turn right on Route 32 and then make a left turn to get to Nininger Road. It will no longer be straight across. The purple line below shows the temporary updated entrance to Woodbury Common.

The second part of the update will add a new access road from the new ramp directly to Woodbury Common. This is the purple line in the photo.
