Update Regarding Snow Days and Parent Teacher Conferences

on January 26, 2017

Monroe-Woodbury Central School District letterhead

Dear Monroe-Woodbury Parents:

We have been very fortunate to have experienced a very mild winter so far. As a result, we have used only one snow day. When the calendar is developed in preparation for a new school year, we build in these snow days to ensure the district meets the mandatory number of school days.

We have the potential of “giving back” three days to our students in the upcoming months (assuming no spring snow storms or other unexpected circumstances). I am writing to share our plan, so you have the opportunity to plan, as well. While no one can accurately predict what the remainder of the winter has in store for us, at this point it seems unlikely that we will require all of the remaining snow days.

Days would be “given back” as follows:

  • If  we do not use a snow day between now and March 9, school will be closed on Friday, March 10.
  • If  we do not use a snow day between March 13 and April 7, school will be closed on Tuesday, April 18.
  • If  we do not use our third remaining snow day by May 25, school will be closed Tuesday, May 30.

**  Please make a note that the half-day parent/teacher conference scheduled for March 10 is cancelled.
We are adding additional evening parent/teacher conferences on:

March 22, 2017 for students in grades K-5

April 5, 2017 for students in grades 6-12

** These changes will happen regardless of snow days.

We will keep you updated on these dates as the winter progresses. Thank you!

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
