Valedictorian & Salutatorian honored at Outstanding Student Recognition Dinner

Family members and district leaders celebrate Ian Ackerman & Victor Yang, 2019 Valedictorian & Salutatorian.

Congratulations to Ian Ackerman, M-W High School Class of 2019 valedictorian, and Victor Yang, salutatorian, who were honored at the Orange-Ulster BOCES Outstanding Student Recognition Dinner on May 29, 2019.

Ackerman will be attending Brown University in the fall, where he plans on majoring in applied mathematics on the pre-med track. He aspires to continue on to medical school after graduation from Brown. Ackerman is captain of the varsity swim team, where he has helped lead the team to four consecutive Section IX championship titles. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the French Honor Society and is trombone section leader in the Wind Ensemble. Outside of school, he works with the Orange County Youth Advisory Board to help provide a positive living environment for teens in the community. He also volunteers at the Valley View Nursing Home.

Yang will be attending Tufts University in the fall, where he will be majoring in biology. He plans on continuing his education in medical school. Yang is president of the National Honor Society and is the clarinet section leader in the Wind Ensemble. He is a National Merit Scholar. Yang volunteers at his local library and has worked as an intern at the Monroe Town Hall.
