Welcome back, North Main families!

on August 24, 2021

Dear North Main Students and Families,

September 2021, wow! We are soon going to be opening our doors to all the North Main students. I hope everyone had a fun and restful summer.   We would like to extend a special welcome to all of our families new to the North Main Community, we are very excited to have you as part of our North Main family!

We had a busy summer here at North Main, even so I did manage to spend some time with my family on the shore in Bethany Beach. Plenty of beach time, some bike riding and my wife and daughter managed to get me out in a kayak….and yes, I even stayed dry!! Mr. Davis had some quality family time as well in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. We both needed some time to “disconnect” and recharge…ready to hit the ground running on September 1st.

In between the recharging, we have managed to coordinate, plan, and put into motion all that needed to be done to have North Main ready for your children.  We will be welcoming all of our children back to full in person learning, 5 days a week, beginning on Wednesday, September 1st at 9:00 a.m.  As outlined by our Superintendent, Mrs. Rodriguez, we will continue to follow COVID safety guidelines for our children and faculty this school year. I will share more details and specifics in the coming days.

I am sure everyone is excited to receive their teacher’s name for the coming school year! Teacher assignments will be available in the Parent Portal for parents/guardians to view on Monday afternoon, August 23rd.  Please be assured that class placements were worked on collaboratively with all the North Main faculty, to make the best class and teacher selections.

Transportation will provide all busing information as soon as they are finalized.  Please be at the bus stop at least 10 minutes earlier than scheduled, and remember that buses run a little slower for the first few days of school. If you are dropping your child off, drop-off begins at 8:55 a.m.  The drop-off procedures will be the same as last year. Last year, we instituted a “new and improved” pick up program at North Main.

  • Parents need to notify the main office (email [email protected]) no later than 2:30 p.m. on the day of dismissal if there are changes to your child’s dismissal plan.
  • Parents will not be permitted to enter the building and wait for their child. Parents will be directed to pull along the center curb in front of the building (pick-up line) by security.
  • Pick-up time has been changed. It is now from 3:25-3:40 p.m. Any parent that arrives later than 3:40 p.m., will be asked to wait until the buses have been released before we release their child. This measure was put in place for the safety of all our children.**
  • Parents/guardians will show identification to the safety officer along the curb without leaving their vehicle.
  • Your name will be given to the greeter and your child will be escorted to your vehicle.
  • Once you have your child, and can safely move your vehicle, you will be directed to leave the parking lot.

** If you arrive after 3:40 p.m., you will need to identify yourself to safety, and will be directed to park in a designated area to wait for your child. At this time, it may NOT be possible for us to dismiss your child safely until after the buses have dismissed.

If you plan to pick up your child every day, or certain days EVERY WEEK (ex. every Monday), an email and form will go out the week of August 23rd for you to complete.  If you will be utilizing YMCA, SMA, or UMAC on a regular schedule, please notify us at [email protected]. If your pick-ups will be occasional/sporadic, please just notify us at [email protected] on the day of the pick-up.

We have homework for the parents and guardians.  On the first day of school, families will receive information and forms to fill out. Please remember that all notices from the office will be sent electronically.

Please remember that school begins for students on WEDNESDAY, September 1st.   Here are some important items for the adults to remember:

  1. Please remember to have a government issued photo ID to show EVERY time you come to the building.  Visitors will not be allowed into the building.
  2. Please read and complete important information that will be sent home on the first day of school.
  3. You will receive bus information regarding the bus stop and pick-up/drop-off time from the district Transportation Department.

There will be opportunities to meet your child’s teacher at Open House, which will be held VIRTUALLY at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 21st for Gr. 2 and 3, Gr. 4 and 5.   Teachers will hold virtual Open Houses at 6:30 p.m., and again at 7:15 p.m., to allow for families to participate in more than one meet, should you have more than one child at North Main.

Thank you for your continued support!  Have a wonderful rest of the summer, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday, September 1st.

Sincerely,
