Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to the new school year! September is always an exciting time as we renew the cycle of learning and establish new friendships and partnerships. We look forward to your involvement in our program!

During the school year, we will provide you with information about your child’s program through notices, emails, newsletters, Open House and parent/teacher conferences. We are continuing the District’s “Go Green” commitment, and plan to email and post on the Sapphire website as many of these notices as possible. You will find information on Parent Portal on the Monroe Woodbury website (www.mw.k12.ny.us) – see Parent Portal Instructions under Quick Links on the right side of the screen. By logging in to the Parent Portal, you can access important information such as your child’s report card, attendance and emergency contact information. You have the ability to update your email, telephone numbers, and contact preferences. In addition, please read through the Sapphire Elementary School Parent Handbook that will continuously be updated to reflect changes to our building practices and procedures due to the current pandemic. The handbook can be found under the school link, “Sapphire Parent Resources” on the Sapphire website.

Enclosed is a bus transportation letter with your child’s bus stop, bus number, and the pick-up and drop-off schedule. Even if your child is NOT riding a bus, please put the tag in the clear plastic sleeve and affix it to your child’s backpack. Please be at the stop 10 minutes earlier than the scheduled time, and remember that buses run a little slower for the first few days of school.

The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 1, however, we look forward to welcoming our first grade and kindergarten students to meet their teacher and drop off any school supplies during our orientations that will be held on Tuesday, August 31. To maintain social distancing to the best of our ability, orientations will be staggered throughout the day. Each student is permitted to bring 1 adult with them to their orientation. Unfortunately, siblings are not able to attend.

Please see the enclosed schedule for your child’s orientation time. Unfortunately, students will not be permitted in the school or classrooms outside of their scheduled orientation, as the staff will be participating in professional development opportunities to prepare for the first day of school!

Thank you for your partnership, support, and enthusiasm as we begin this year together.  We look forward to seeing our Sapphire students grow and learn together this year.

Sincerely,

Caitlin T. Caldwell
Principal
