Universal Pre-kindergarten expanded for 2022-2023 school year

Monroe-Woodbury Central School District is excited to announce the continuation - and expansion - of its Universal Pre-kindergarten (UPK) Program for the 2022-2023 school year.

M-W currently offers the UPK program in-district at Sapphire Elementary and off campus at Little Pals Preschool in Harriman, NY. During the 2022-2023 school year, additional spots will also be available for M-W students at Kids Korner in Central Valley, NY. All locations will follow the same curriculum so that instruction is aligned.

“We’re excited to expand the UPK program for the upcoming school year,” said Eric Hassler, Ed.D., assistant superintendent for curriculum & instruction at Monroe-Woodbury. “I have seen how impactful this program is to our youngest students. They are growing, making connections and loving every minute of their experience, and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to open up the program to more students.”

The district is currently  working to finalize program details, including how many student spots will be available at each location. If parents or guardians are interested in enrolling their child in the M-W UPK program, they are asked to please complete the online questionnaire

Children’s names will be entered individually into a random lottery held later this month to determine enrollment. If a student is selected, location placement (Sapphire, Little Pals or Kids Korner) will be made based on seat availability and preference. Please indicate site preference on the questionnaire, but be aware that the district is unable to guarantee location requests. Any student not selected in the lottery will be placed on the waiting list.

Please note that according to NYS Education Law, children are eligible for UPK who are four years of age on or before December 1st. A child eligible for kindergarten is not eligible for UPK.
