Mr. McElroy, Social Studies Department Chair, was the master of ceremonies on June 6 as the MWHS Humanities Program celebrated the end of the 2024-2025 school year honoring students who took the course in ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade. Kendall Baez, Moriah Collins, Eliza Encarnacion, Emma Encarnacion, Gianna Hodge, Lucas Rivera, and Julian Velez have the distinction of being three-year Humanities students and spoke about their experiences in the honors distinction program that blends history with literature and engaging, rigorous coursework.
The eleventh grade students also shared memories from this year, honoring Mr. Irwin and Mr. Holbrook, at the close of their final year as teachers in the Humanities program. Ninth and tenth grade students also talked about some things that made their experiences so enriching: how it fosters a sense of community, curiosity and intellectual discourse.
Humanities students were joined by their teachers: Mrs. Caruso and Mrs. Bleakley (ninth grade), Mr. Hyman and Mr. Lee (tenth grade), Mr. Irwin and Mr. Holbrook (eleventh grade), as well as the new eleventh grade co-teachers who will join the program in the 2025-2026 school year, Ms. Baird and Mrs. Ahrens. Dr. Norman, Superintendent of Schools, Mr. McElroy, MWHS Principal, and Dr. Hassler, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, were also present to hear students share about what makes the program a unique and creative endeavor.
