Today marks the end of Hispanic Heritage Month. From September 15 through October 15, Crusaders across the district celebrated by decorating classroom doors and sharing mini-biographies of admired Hispanic leaders. There were dedicated bulletin boards highlighting staff members representing their home countries, while students wore the colors of their flags to share their heritage and introduce peers to their cultures. šŸ’œ

MWMS eighth grade students in Mrs. Sager's biology class experienced the chemistry of life firsthand through an engaging, step-by-step collaborative lab.

Working in small teams, students built a monosaccharide. Next, pairs of teams combined their molecules to form disaccharides. To complete the activity, the whole class came together to create a polysaccharide.

This hands-on lesson allowed students to explore dehydration synthesis in action, demonstrating how smaller molecules join together to form more complex carbohydrates.

Crusaders are learning biology one molecule at a time! šŸ”¬šŸ§¬

This past summer, Lidia Zarate Gonzalez, President of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), and Vice President Isabella Riva-Gonzalez represented their chapter at the National Leadership Summit in Cleveland, Ohio. Centered on the theme "Back to '81," the founding year of SADD, the summit commemorated 45 years of service placing a strong emphasis on peer interaction and leadership growth.

MWHS students took part in a ā€œBack to ā€˜81ā€ themed Spirit Day on September 18, National SADD Day. Crusaders wrote positive messages on a special interactive banner, listened to music from the ā€˜80’s and took photos while enjoying special treats from this era.

Many Crusaders also signed the ā€œContract for Life,ā€ which is a SADD pledge committing to making safe, positive choices and looking out for each other.

It was a fun way for our Crusaders to turn back the clock while reinforcing the importance of protecting their future through safe choices. šŸ‘

On Friday, September 25, the Monroe-Woodbury community will come together to honor everyone courageously fighting cancer, celebrate those who have overcome it, and remember the angels who continue to watch over us.

We invite everyone to wear gold or yellow as a meaningful expression of love, support and compassion for our families, friends, colleagues, alumni, and every member of the M-W family affected by pediatric cancer.

Let’s fill our community with hope, strength, and love as we stand together for those fighting, those who have won their battle and those we carry forever in our hearts. šŸ’›

Happy SRO and Safety Officer Appreciation Week! Let’s begin by recognizing and celebrating a special member of our school community, recently retired MWHS Safety Officer Mark Goodson.

Mark dedicated an incredible 30+ years of service to MWHS. Throughout those years, he had the privilege of watching countless students walk across the stage at graduation and begin their own great journeys. He also had the joy of seeing former students return to the district as teachers and staff members.

Mark’s commitment to the safety, security, and well-being of our students and staff has left a lasting impact on our school community. He truly embodies what it means to be a Crusader.

Enjoy your retirement Mark, and thank you for your dedication. You will forever be a part of the M-W community!šŸ’œ
