Science and Engineering Fair participant winners

Twelve Monroe-Woodbury High School students competed in the 33rd annual Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair (GCRSEF) held on March 18 at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Great job to all participants who completed projects under the supervision of Jessica Puopolo and Ashley Taylor.

Anthony Kaminskiy - the USAID Award 

  • Senior Division | ISEF Award

  • Project Tile:  Assessing The Infection Rate of Otitis Externa In Patients Who Swam In Chlorine Treated Waters of Natural Lakewater

  • Award Description: This award is given to a humanitarian project that holds the potential to improve lives around the world. It addresses health and environmental problems facing the world such as clean water, sustainable food, energy production, climate change and health.

Isabella Rogozinski - The American Psychological Association and Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools Award

  • Senior Division | ISEF Award

  • Project Tile:  Comparing the Rates of Anxiety in Common Everyday Scenarios in Alzheimer’s Patients and Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Patients

  • Award Description: This award recognizes outstanding research in psychology under the category of behavioral and social sciences or any category related to psychology (e.g., animal sciences, biochemistry, computer science, environmental science, mathematical science, medicine and health).

Ashok Sathiamoorthy - The Office of Naval Research Naval Science Award

  • Project Tile:  The Effects of Automated Parameter Selection in Cohort Intelligence – A Self-Adaptive Learning Behavior

Emily Taveras - both The Stockholm Junior Water Prize and The U.S. Metric Association Award

The Stockholm Junior Water Prize - Senior Division | ISEF Award

  • Project Tile:  Evaluating Moringa Oleifera in an f-sand Filter Along with Solar Disinfection for Drinking Water and its Adaptability in the Point-of-Use Setting

  • Award Description: This is for the best projects related to water quality, water resource management, water protection, water treatment or wastewater treatment.

The U.S. Metric Association Award - Senior Division | ISEF Award

  • Project Tile:  Evaluating Moringa Oleifera in an f-sand Filter Along with Solar Disinfection for Drinking Water and its Adaptability in the Point-of-Use Setting

  • Award Description: This is for a student whose project involves a significant amount of quantitative measurement and which best uses the SI metric system for those measurements.

Audrey Whitfield - The STANYS: Eleanor Miller Reed Science Research Award

Senior Division | Regional Award

Project Tile:  The Presence of Peripheral Biomarkers of ACL Injury and Recovery in Cadets Attending the United States Military Academy at West Point

Award Description: This award is given to a project that “captures the spirit of science research.”
