Kudos to seniors Swathi Sathiyamoorthy and Destiny Francis, who were selected to present their research at the UAlbany High School Science Research Invitational Symposium on February 25. They, along with fellow science research students, had the opportunity to explore projects from other schools.
The MWHS Science Research Program currently includes approximately 50 students across grades 10–12. Freshmen may apply and are accepted through an application process. Participation requires a multi-year commitment. Students begin by selecting a topic and conducting background research. By senior year, they develop an original research question, identify a gap in existing knowledge, and write a formal paper. Students work closely with a mentor—an expert in their field—and ultimately present their findings at regional symposiums.
All seniors also competed in the Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair on March 28. The high school will hold its annual Science Research Symposium on May 28 at 6 p.m. at MWHS.
