The Micro Computer Center (MCC) is currently marking a decade of its technology internship initiative, and former Crusaders have returned to take advantage of this opportunity. Since 2016, 58 interns have worked in the MCC, gaining valuable experience with new technologies while helping repair and maintain computers throughout the district.
Led by Computer Network Specialists Zachery Neenan and Cody Walsh, a team of six interns travel throughout the district when many classrooms are empty, to learn new systems, perform inventory and repairs, and upgrade digital devices.
“The interns are a huge part of this process. They assist in ensuring classrooms are ready for teachers, staff, and students on day one of the new school year," remarked Neenan.
Although majoring in diverse fields such as journalism, engineering, and pre-med, these students all recognize the critical role technology plays in their respective fields. When asked why he chose to intern at MWCSD, Stony Brook sophomore Pravin Jegan shared, "I attended school here for 12 years, why not work here and give back."
“This program was initiated by district administration to support our students with college and career readiness, while also assisting the district with a variety of technology-related projects. It aligns with our mission to ensure all students (and alums) have access to opportunities that help them grow in and beyond the classroom,” said Bhargav Vyas, Ed.D., Assistant Superintendent of Compliance and Information Services.
