To observe the 25th anniversary of September 11, our Monroe-Woodbury Middle School community gathered for a deeply meaningful assembly. The entire MWMS student body, alongside Superintendent Tracy Norman, Board of Education trustees, faculty, and staff, stood together with local first responders to honor all whose lives were transformed by that day.
The assembly provided an opportunity for students to reflect and appreciate the immense bravery shown by first responders and everyday citizens. A moment of silence was held to pay tribute to the lives lost and support the families who continue to feel the impact today.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the representatives in attendance from the Monroe Police Department, Woodbury Fire Department, Woodbury EMS, Woodbury Police Department, and the New York State Police for their enduring dedication, bravery, and service to our community.
Sharing that the events of 9/11 inspired his own path into public service, Principal Vasquez encouraged students to embody the spirit of service in their daily lives: “As we remember those we lost and honor those who responded with courage, I ask you to hold onto one idea: you don't have to wear a uniform to serve your community. Kindness, respect, showing up for one another — these are things every one of you can do, starting today.”
