This year, Sapphire Elementary School chose a unique way to learn about veterans in our community by creating a Veterans’ Honor Wall. Students, faculty, staff, and families were invited to share a photo and the story of an important person or family member who is a veteran, whether in the U.S. or abroad. The responses were beautiful stories of grandmothers, grandfathers, uncles, nephews, neighbors, and even Sapphire’s beloved custodian Jim Horne. Closeups of some sections of the wall show just a small sample of the stories that were shared.
It is Sapphire’s hope that the Veterans’ Honor Wall will bring a sense of shared purpose and strength as we honor these heroes of the MWCSD community and the countries in which they have served.
