Message from the Superintendent header

January 1, 2022

Dear Monroe-Woodbury families,

As we prepare for students’ return to school following winter break, our first priority and essential focus remains on keeping schools open and providing in-person instruction for students in a safe environment.

That being said, we have a growing concern about the increasing numbers of positive COVID-19 cases in our community and schools and how this will impact district staffing. A number of staff members have reported positive test results, are symptomatic, awaiting test results or have been exposed to COVID-19.

As a result, we will be extending winter break and Monday, January 3, 2022, will now be a Superintendent’s Conference Day. All students will have the day off from school to allow time for the district to assess staffing needs at every building. Please note that this conference day was already built into the district calendar and the number of student instructional days remains unchanged.

All instructional buildings will be open from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Monday should parents need to retrieve any of their child’s belongings.

The district will use information provided by staff to create an instructional plan that best serves our students. There is a possibility that we may need to pivot a building to remote learning if adequate staffing is unavailable. These decisions will be made on a building specific basis, unless it is determined that the highly infectious variant has significantly impacted our ability to staff schools districtwide.

Just a reminder that the district’s existing quarantine/isolation protocols have not changed. We will continue to monitor recommendations from the federal and state levels and rely upon the County Department of Health for further guidance.

Additionally, on Monday, January 3, 2022, the district will receive at home test kits for every student. Once received, we will provide information on how parents may access them.

Out-of-district students will be transported if their program is open.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. I will share more detailed information with families on Monday afternoon. We are doing all that we can to keep our schools open and safe.

Warm regards,

Elsie Rodriguez
Superintendent of Schools
