Dear Monroe-Woodbury families,
As addressed in my previous message, district leaders dedicated the morning hours to gathering information from staff to help determine our next steps. We remain steadfast in our commitment to keeping schools open and safe for the school community. All decisions are made with this ultimate goal in mind.
The data clearly indicates that we must make immediate adjustments based on limited staffing availability. Positive COVID cases continue to impact both instructional and non-instructional staff.
After thorough discussions, the following plan will be implemented tomorrow, Tuesday, January 4 and will continue through Friday, January 7, 2022:
Monroe-Woodbury High School and Monroe-Woodbury Middle School will pivot to remote instruction from Tuesday, January 4 - Friday, January 7, 2022. Teachers will provide live synchronous instruction and all students will attend classes online following their regular schedules:
HS - periods 1-9
MS - advisory followed by periods 1-9
All K-5 students will attend school in person following their regular schedules. Transportation will be provided as usual.
Out-of-district students, including BOCES and CTEC, will be transported to and from school.
Extracurricular groups and clubs who require in-person attendance, including athletic teams, will meet, however, after school transportation will not be provided. Groups and clubs are encouraged to meet remotely if possible.
M-W buildings will remain open for outside groups who have reserved space in advance.
Breakfast and lunch meals for middle school and high school students will be available for pick-up Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at MWMS and MWHS.
Important Reminders:
The district’s existing quarantine/isolation protocols have not changed. We will continue to monitor recommendations from the federal and state levels and rely upon the Orange County Department of Health (OCDOH) for further guidance.
At-home test kits for students have not yet been delivered to the district. We will be in touch with instructions on how families may access them as soon as they arrive.
Weather forecasts indicate that M-W may experience inclement weather at the end of the week. Please note that if schools close, a traditional snow day would be used. All schools and district offices would be closed and all after school activities canceled. Out-of-district students would not be transported.
If necessary, families will be notified of any changes to the district’s regular schedule via email, text and/or phone call, based on preferences selected in the Parent/Student Portal. Thank you for your ongoing support and cooperation as we continue to navigate this COVID-19 crisis. Safety, along with our efforts to keep students present in our buildings, will always be our top priorities.
