Lisa Sassi - Women's History Month graphic

Dr. Lisa Sassi, District Health Coordinator and High School Nurse, served as the front line to students, staff and families throughout the pandemic. She took on many tasks outside of her “regular” responsibilities with a positive attitude, can-do approach and utmost  care. Thank you, Dr. Sassi, for being a beacon of light during difficult times. We celebrate you during Women's History Month.

A note about Dr. Sassi from Lori Hock, Interim Principal, Monroe-Woodbury High School
“Dr. Sassi dedicated countless hours to dealing with COVID issues, assisting staff who have had questions about COVID and, all the while, showed patience, compassion and strength during a time of such uncertainty.”

Q: How long have you worked in the district?
A: I have worked in the Monroe-Woodbury district for almost 20 years.

Q: What role do you play in Monroe- Woodbury?
A: I am one of the two high school nurses and I am the district coordinator for health services.

Q: What’s your favorite part about what you do?
A: I really enjoy working with the students, especially high school-aged students. You may see them goofing around one minute, and the next minute, I see them opening a door for a teacher or helping another student on crutches. They are all so different and all have such kindness in them. And in a large high school like this one, I love to observe students in their element. It’s great to see them shine in art, music, sports or their science research class. I’m always amazed.

Q: Who is your  hero and why?
A: My mother is my hero. She really instilled in me the importance of family, hard work, education and travel. But to always remember what really matters most.

Q: Name three characteristics that describe yourself.
A: I would describe myself as honest, kind and hard working (as well as a good mom and nurse).

Q: What do you think makes you an effective leader?
A: I always try to understand and support my staff. We’re lucky, every single nurse andhealth aide in the district is extremely smart and, most importantly, extremely kind. I always remember that everyone has times in their lives when they need more support and I always try to support them. There is no job that I wouldn’t do.

Q: What would you want people to remember about your impacts in the district?
A: That I was knowledgeable, kind, supportive and a team player.

Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A: My advice for my younger self would be to enjoy the journey and lighten up a bit.
